This is the fifth year for the annual ‘Follow the Rails Art Trail’ which traverses NE Hwy 2 from Grand Island to Alliance, known as the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway.
The Art Trail has added a youth bale art contest. The pupose is to increase art awareness and appreciation for youth on the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway using hay bales.
Any youth organization that resides along NE Highway 2 from Grand Island to Alliance may enter (i.e. 4H clubs, FFA, School organizations or classes, etc.)
Must be a group of at least 3 students with 1 adult sponsor noted.
Categories: Single bale – Use of 1 bale Multi bales – Use of 2 or more bales
Bales can be the small square, the ‘bread loaf’ or the large round bales, made of hay or straw. Rules: NO ENTRY FEES –
- Placement of bales needs to have permission from property owner
- Use of non-toxic materials (Livestock friendly), may use other items as needed but hay bales are the foundation base
- Placement of entries needs to be by turnouts or side roads off Hwy 2, must not block driving routes. This will allow drivers to pull off safely for pictures if they so desire.
- Display must be up by Sept. 7 (Labor Day) and remain up until Oct. 19. 5. Displays must be in good taste, able to be enjoyed by all seeing it
